This box is made of rift-sawn white oak and black walnut. On the top, the light colored sap wood defines a narrow gap that is spanned by walnut braces on the inside. The interior and bottom are black walnut.
This piece was inspired by an architectural element in a building designed by Louis Kahn. I loved how he made a bridge to span a divide in a wall, so I incorporated that idea into the top of this box.
