This White Oak box has a bleached maple lid. The lid has been textured and etched, treated with a white wash and filled with white wax. Discernible beneath the etching are fragments of a poem, creating a palimpsest effect. Both the box and removable sliding drawer are lined in leather.
The incised writing on the top includes fragments of a poem by Wendell Berry about a long love. I wanted the sense of quiet understanding in that poem to be reflected in this piece somehow.
